Many people think of a flowers in general terms and do not realize that there are two main categories of flowers, Annuals, and Perennials. In this paper I will compare the difference and similarities of these two types of flower. I hope that the information that I provide will help educate the novice gardener and help them make an informed decision when choosing what type of flowers to pant. I picked this as my topic because it is something that I have previous experience in and, because it looks at things that appear to be very similar on the surface but are in fact very different.

The Perfect Swan Dive

To fully understand the scene that took place in this photograph we must first get to know every part of the character that it has captured. And to ease any question in your minds as to whether I am the appropriate person to acquaint you with him, I will have you know that he is my father. He has been called a great many things by an even greater number of people, as if every part that he plays has its own persona. But I will introduce by the name he was given by his mother, Leonard James Hitz the 2nd, named after my grandfather. But it is not quite that simple because he is also Leonard J. Hitz the 3rd after my great grandfather who was Leonard Julius Hitz. Even the man’s name has a story behind it. And yes so everyone remains on the same page I am also Leonard James Hitz the… well I think that you all get the point. Now where was I before I was distracted by all of this business with names? Oh yes, my father.
The first thing that most people notice about him, and you have probably already noticed yourself when you first looked at the picture was the size of the man. He dominates any space that he occupies, and it is not just his size alone he has a personality of gigantic proportions as well. I once had to ride in the back seat of a car full of people with him seated right next to me. My older sister was driving as it was her car we had all piled into. My niece Kathleen was in the middle of the front seat between my sister and my dad’s elderly aunt barb. So there I was in the back seat with my father and my own son.  My dad took his seat next to the window, and we put my son next to the other window because his car seat was too large for the middle.  Now don’t get me wrong I love the man and enjoy being close to him but a long road trip strapped in between him and my son’s car seat; well it was not very comfortable to say the least. He was sitting to the left of me and the car seat to the right. I had to sit with my shoulders slightly turned just so I could fit between the two, my legs tightly together and my hands squarely in my lap because there was no room to put them lese where, the hard plastic of the seat jammed into my ribs the whole time. I was such an uncomfortable situation that even though the air conditioning was going I begun to sweat. I am starting to get claustrophobic just remembering. And there was my father as calm and comfortable as could be. As he sat there taking up every bit of his own space there in the back seat and part of mine as well; he took it upon himself to tell a story so that everyone would be entertained.
This is the story that he told on that on that particularly uncomfortable car ride. “You’ll never believe what happen to me the other night when I got home from work. There were these two little tree frogs hanging out on the wall by the front door just under the porch light, one to the left the other just to the right. It was a hot, humid night and the light was attracting a multitude of bugs that were crawling and buzzing around. And as I approached, I said to myself out loud I wonder what these little guys are up to?
“Then you wouldn’t believe it but the little on the left chirped up as I got closer and said,
‘Don’t mind us we’re just hanging out here eating some of these tasty little bugs for dinner.’ Well that caught me by surprise so I just stood there for a minute and then I said to myself again, I must have gone out of my mind. I could swear that I just heard that little frog there talk. Just then the little on the right speaks out and says,
‘No sir you heard Jim there right as day. And I guess that you wouldn’t have heard anything but you scared us when you walked up on us the way you did, so he thought that he had better say something or else you might take a swat at us.’
‘Well if this isn’t just the grandest thing I have ever seen’ I said, ‘and I assure that I would never harm such an amazing pair of talking frogs.’ Then I asked, ‘If that’s Jim, what is your name?’ And he said,
‘Well my name is Bob. And what is yours?’ And I told him,
‘My name is Leonard’ then we just sat there for a while looking at each other because I don’t really know what else to say to a couple of frogs. So after a minute or two I said, ‘Well it has been a pleasure talking with the two of you; and time sure flies when you’re having fun,  and it’s getting late so I should probably be getting inside.’ And Jim said
‘Well I’m not too sure what you mean by that, but I can tell you time sure is fun when you having flies.’ And we all laughed. Then I went inside before the fire flies started singing.”

Now that you know my father. I guess I had better let you know now that as far as what was taking place when the picture was taken, I’m not too sure. I wasn’t actually there that day. He claims that is was a perfect swan dive, but as far as I know I was an awesome belly flop. The picture is of my dad and that is what makes it important to me.

Judy Brady “I Want a Wife”
Summary:
In this essay Judy explains what she feels is expected of a wife. From domestic chores and responsibilities to fulfilling sexual needs, and to not have needs of their own. And states that anyone would want a wife if they do so much.

Christina H. Sommers “Men-It’s in their Nature”
Summary:
This article is about how the author feels the feminist movement has tried to achieve equality by trying to force unreasonable change in the males of our society. That trying to change the concept of masculinity has done as much harm as it has good, men are men by nature. She feels that the results of cultivating masculinity would be much for favorable then trying to change it.

For my analysis I choose “Men-It’s in Their Nature”, because while I found both articles very interesting. I feel that I am more familiar with the concepts in this piece. I am sure    that “I Want a Wife” would make for a very engaging analysis, but I choose the topic that I thought would I would enjoy researching and writing about.

Descriptive Writing

One of my favorite places to visit is a place that cannot be reached on foot or even by car. There are no roads to drive on, there are no trails that will allow you to reach this special place on foot. This place is a watery wonderland that can only be reached by boat, and not any boat will do. The only way that I will go there is by canoe. Sure you could take a motor boat if you wanted but then you would miss so much of the tranquility that is offered, that you might as well not have gone at all. Not to mention that you are likely to run aground and fowl the prop.
I must tell you now that the way there is not for the faint of heart. You must cross a mighty river that is a half a mile wide. And you must always be aware of the larger boats and barge traffic. These vessels could smash a little canoe to pieces, and the wakes that they create can easily overturn an unsuspecting boater. But if you’re lucky you’ll see one of the large paddle driven steam boats that still navigate the river. Imagine a boat three hundred feet long with six decks sitting above the water, driven by a paddle wheel at the back that is twenty feet in diameter. And two tall smoke stacks reaching to the sky above the upper deck. It is a grand sight to see.
After crossing the river there a sloughs that run for miles to the North, South, and West. Now once you reach these backwater you must beware that you do not end up lost, because to the unexperienced eye every channel and every island looks the same. And the go on for miles. I recommend traveling with someone that knows the area.
Once you reach this place I advise paying close attention because the sights and sounds are endless. Buy this time you are so far away that you can no longer hear the sounds of civilization. Aside from the noise that you paddle makes as it enters and exits the water you are surrounded by the drone of insects. Like Cicadas high in the tree tops clicking away so noisily that they sound like they are right in your ear but in the hot humidity of summer their sounds can easily be heard from a quarter of a mile or more away. Then add to that the croaking of frogs that hide in the mud and long grass along the banks. But don’t let these sounds distract you because you’re not likely to see either of these noisy creatures. The ones that you might glimpse are the hundreds of different birds all with their own songs away and flirting amongst the tree tops.
Pay close attention to the floating logs and the shore lines as you navigate into new water ways. These are the places that you’ll see the wonderful sights. I have seen logs with as many as thirty brightly colored painted turtles on them, but go slow because as soon as they know your there they will slip back into the water in a flash. Great Blue Herons like to stand just of the bank in the shallow water and fish among the weeds, catching unsuspecting little fish that didn’t realize that they were not swimming past the stocks of cat’s tails but instead through the legs of a great predator. And when these magnificent birds take to the sky sometimes they pass so low overhead that you can feel the wind currents created by their powerful wings and hear the air as it flows through their feathers. And don’t be to startled buy the great splash and swirling muddy waters right next to you that are so strong that they push the nose of the canoe a quarter of the way around it was probably just a giant carp that didn’t notice you were there until you were right on top of him.
Once you return home you may be sunburnt if you forgot the sunscreen. Or covered with a hundred red lumps where the mosquitos and horse flies decided to dine on you if you didn’t bring the bug spray. And if you happened to venture onto one of the island it is quite likely that you even picked up a few ticks, or a swarm of chiggers. And if you do go ashore make sure you watch what you walk through because while the nettles will sting you right away it will wear off soon enough, buy if you happened across some poison ivy or poison oak. You will regret that one for days to come. And unless you’re a gym rat your arms, shoulders, and neck will likely be sore the next day from all of the rowing. But this will all be worthwhile because a trip through these waters is not one you’ll likely forget.

Peter F. Martin “Destroyed”

Summary:

This essay is about the use of performance enhancing drugs in sports. And the differences of opinions that some people have on what issues are more important. The effects that the drugs is having on sports, or the effects that the drugs have on the players that use them.

Paraphrase:

The threats posed by performance enhancing drugs on sports are vary real. "They challenge the ideals of sports, passed down to use from the Greeks..." even the concepts we have of modern day sports. In a time before super humans that are the affects of unnatural enhancers started to flood the playing fields. But it is these players, the ones whose health and well being are at stake. They are the really important issue here. More so then the game itself. Which so many fans and other people seem to be focusing there attention on. Charging the ruin of the sport to the vary players who's lives are being so negatively affected by these drugs. Is a game really more important then the players playing it? (Martin, 580-582)

Quote:

I choose this quote for two main reasons. The first and most important to myself is because I enjoy ancient history.  Secondly because this line gives the readers a sense of just how old the concept of purity in sports is.
